At PS 340 we are committed to involving our children in activities that help the community.  We hope to develop the mindset that good neighbors reach out and help one another. To that end, we choose age-appropriate, local initiatives that involve the students in supporting our New York City neighbors.

In 2024/2025, we are excited to continue our partnership with City Harvest, Room to Grow, and Project Cicero.

City Harvest Canned Food Drive

Typically held the week before Thanksgiving break, the PTA organizes a food drive through a partnership with City Harvest, which is dedicated to helping feed the million-plus New Yorkers facing hunger. To learn more, visit https://www.cityharvest.org

Project Cicero

Project Cicero helps New York City public school teachers build classroom libraries that inspire students to read. It collects new and gently used books from generous donors, organize them with the help of hundreds of volunteers, and invite teachers to select books that fit their classrooms’ and their students’ needs, all at no cost to the teachers. Their goal is simple: to foster a love of reading by making literacy resources accessible to every child, regardless of their zip code.

Each Spring, we collect books for Project Cicero at drop-off and bring them to the Project Cicero collection center.
